Do I Need a List - How Does That Make Me Money Online?

This a great topic in Internet Marketing, but, if you haven't been around for a while and are unfamiliar with the basic building blocks of running a business online, you need to hear this.

There are many ways to make money online and one of the most common is the good ol' website. You design it to look good and you put selling copy on it. You put good products on it for sale. There are graphics and pictures and there are a billion of these.

Now you can add a little infrastructure to your website and build a list! A list is the freely given list of names and email address that have been captured from the stream of traffic to your website. Not every body will give you that information, but a lot will. And the list grows and grows. These are people you get multiple opportunities to market to, and, it's more effective than letting a prospect wander around your website and possibly leave without buying and without a trace!

I know a fellow that has a list building mini empire. He operates without a website as you know it. Yes, he has websites but they are just white with text content. His goal is to build his list, sell products to his list, ask the list what they want, find that and provide it to them! His most important tool for collecting list names is an opt in box where he trades some high quality free information for their name and email addresses.

He uses article marketing to drive traffic to his opt-in offer, gets the names and commences to market to them. His web pages are a sales page for what he is selling and no more. Very lean and efficient. To him the list is everything. He is a master at it.

What I do is... I have a website with content and affiliate products on it. I have a squeeze page which is an odd name for a page that is designed to get names for a list only. Not necessarily to sell something! It's daring to send someone to a page that has nothing on it to buy but I do! I drive traffic to the squeeze page with article marketing.

Let me explain something I was told by an expert. This expert says you can drive someone to a sales page or product website and they might buy and they might not and leave! If you have their name you can sort of court them and establish trust. Now you are building a market! Instead of one shot at selling them something you now have several try's at selling them and way more control.

One of the things I've seen advanced list builder/marketers do is send out an email that asks a question like this. Dear List Customer: What is the one problem in Internet Marketing you would most like a solution for? When this gets answered our list builder knows what the customer would be glad to buy. Very smart.

So, if you are looking for how to make money online I recommend studying list building. There are several really good teachers on line and the knowledge you'll gain will pay you over and over for a long time. There are also some really good Online Internet Marketing Schools. That's where I got my start. I still attend two of them regularly.
